April 24 - Principal Message

Leiha Dulawan

April 24, 2021

Dear McKinley Families,

Thank you for completing the iPass survey at home, having your child ready to learn, and getting in and out of the parking lot quickly and safely.  Our morning drop off is getting faster and safer!  We appreciate everyone’s cooperation to practice safety and social distancing for our students.  We continue to ask that all students stay home with any COVID symptoms and that all parents quickly enter and exit our parking lot without using staff and teachers’ parking spaces.

As many of you know might have noticed that I am pregnant and will be going out on maternity leave very soon.  In fact, my last day will be Friday, April 30 until I return to McKinley this summer to prepare the school for the 2021-2022 school year.  While I am excited to have my first child, I will definitely miss my students and the community I serve.  I trust that the staff and parents will continue to work together to keep McKinley a wonderful place for students to succeed academically and socially.  Our teachers, staff, and students, have done an amazing job this entire school year despite all of our challenges.  I am so proud to be this school’s principal.  Thank you staff, students, and families!

I would also like to introduce you to Jorge Fulco - the interim principal of McKinley during my maternity leave.  Mr. Fulco served as an elementary teacher for 17 years and administrator for 18 years in Santa Barbara Unified School District.   He taught bilingual classes in Santa Barbara elementary schools in addition to being an administrator at Adams Elementary, Santa Barbara Junior High, La Cumbre, Goleta Valley, and Dos Pueblos High School.  He has degrees and credentials from UCSB - GO GAUCHOS and an MA from California Lutheran University!

We will have a PTA meeting April 29 at 6PM so that all parents can have a chance to meet him.

We will discuss:

Drafts of the School Logo

6th Grade Promotion

Campus Safety - Parking Lot Procedures

The zoom code for this meeting is 359 959 2750.

Let’s also take the time to congratulate our students who reclassified this school year!  Students who reclassify demonstrate perseverance, curiosity, and strong language skills. GO BEARS!
